Kawung is one of the oldest batik patterns. It originated from the 13th-century Hindu influence. This pattern represented four Palm Blossoms, with its seed in the middle, which represents the King. Traditionally, this pattern was reserved for royalties only. Galeri Batik Jawa, who produced this scarf, works directly with village artisans around Yogyakarta.
